A Moi University student was duped by conmen yesterday morning. The lady received an Mpesa message showing that she had received money from a certain person after which she received a call from an unknown person who claimed that she had won the amount from a game which she had participated in.
However, she had not participated in any kind of game but surprisingly she believed the caller and rushed to the nearest Mpesa agent. The caller who claimed to be Safaricom's customer care had instructed her to go to the nearest Mpesa agent then call him so that he would communicate with the agent on how to retrieve the lady's cash.
The Mpesa agent realised that it was a call from a con man and she believed that the student was part of the scheme which led her into beating her up. Passersby went to her rescue.
Meanwhile, such cases have been reported which see many Mpesa agents lose their float.
