We can utilise the water sources to irrigate arid areas and generate sufficient produce to meet food demand. The government can borrow a leaf from Israel, a tiny country in the middle of a desert.
Israel produces enough food to sustain its citizens and even surplus for export to more advanced countries which have adequate resources like ours.
Our government should take advantage of its qualified personnel and research institutes like Kenya Agricultural and Research Institute to seriously help address food crisis. The government should at the same time consider cultivating millions of uncultivated acres of land or lease it to ensure food security.
