Helb loans must be paid in good faith

More than 400,000 students have so far benefited from the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) disbursements since its establishment in 1995.

Unfortunately, a number of people have defaulted on the loans. This makes it difficult for the institution to keep afloat, denying other students the chance to further their education through Helb funding.

This has seen the institution partner with other Government agencies, such as the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) so as to nab the defaulters. This move, in my opinion, is indeed justified.

However, this may hinder other people who are repaying the loans from accessing basic services. Kenyans should be their brothers keepers and repay the loans.
