Bullies helped birth my singing talent- Ruth Wamuyu

Celebrated Kikuyu artist and Pastor at the House of Judah Ministries, Rev. Ruth Wamuyu has opened up on how she discovered her gift of singing back in high school. 

While speaking to Kameme TV, Ruth said that although she used to sing in Sunday School, she had not taken her calling seriously until she was forced to sing for bullies in high school to entertain them. 

The ‘Murigiti’ and ‘Ngai Murathimi’ hitmaker said that when she joined Moi Equator High School, bullying was very real.

“I was very young, and the bullies would ask me what else could I offer apart from being tiny? I would be monolized." 

"One day they told me to sing and when I did they decided moving forward I would be singing for them. I would sing in Sunday School but it was not serious, in high school is when I became serious. The same bullies are the ones who gave me the confidence to join CU and start singing,” she said.  

Ruth continued to share that she would sing for the bullies for even an hour at times, adding that fellow gospel artist Esther Wahome who is known for her song ‘Kuna Dawa’ was also in the same school briefly and was also made to sing by the bullies.
