KILIFI COUNTY: The national government has indicated that work on the Malindi-Tsavo road has been factored in the next financial year budget.
Clearing of the stretch is currently going on and the total cost of the project is estimated to be Sh3.7 billion, according to estimates from the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA).
Malindi MP Dan Kazungu said the 100-kilometre stretch would link Malindi town to Sala Gate in Voi and facilitate the transportation of farm produce, especially maize from the one million-acre Kalula irrigation scheme.
He said phase one of the project classified as a C103 road includes the general maintenance works followed by gravelling, before tarmacking starts early next year.
Kazungu was accompanied by Engineer of Public Works Gerald Makori.
