Meru County Assembly has unanimously passed a motion for the automation of revenue collection.
Nominated member Ruth Kananu, who brought the motion for debate, said a lot of revenue was getting lost through the manual system.
“We are losing a lot of money through fraud and ineffective manual collection system. The only way to collect taxes and transparently account for them is to embrace automation. We need a system that has no loopholes. We ask the county government to take steps to fully automate it,” she said.
She noted that automation would boost the county’s development. Kananu urged Governor Peter Munya to support the motion.
