Kenya: Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Alex ole Magelo has dismissed calls by governors for a referendum, terming it misplaced and untimely, and meant to enrich a few individuals.
Speaking to The Standard in Narok at the weekend, Mr Magelo accused the governors of trying to woo assembly members for support yet they had accused them of being lynch mobs.
"We are aware that this is a way to blackmail MCAs into supporting them," said Magelo.
Magelo accused governors of inciting Kenyans against MCAs especially during the just-ended budget preparation process.
"Many governors wanted to slash allocations while taking the lion's share," said Magelo.
