Nairobi’s Rashid Gift Issa emerged tops during the Mr Kakamega bodybuilding competition on Saturday night at Kakamega Golf Hotel.
Issa proved the best amongst many, as his well-toned muscles convinced the judging panel that he was the best of them all and deserved to be crowned the winner.
The victory saw Issa pocket Sh 100,000 and win a 20,000 voucher for supplements from Kenya Body Building Supplements Company.
Hassan Juma of Kisii was second, while Malindi’s Joseph Owino was third. Marvin Okello of Kitale was fourth, while Hillary Yosi of Nairobi and Mumia’s Abraham Odhiambo were ranked fifth and sixth respectively.
Juma won Sh50,000, while Owino walked away with Sh30,000 in third position. Okello, who was fourth won Sh15, 000, Yosi Sh12,000 and Odhiambo Sh 10,000.
In the bikini contest, Linda Brachel of Nairobi won and was rewarded with Sh10,000, while Faith Ashuma of Mumias pocketed Sh15,000 for winning in the figure category.
Rapid Equities were the main sponsors of the event after pumping in Sh500,000, while Stima Sacco were the other sponsors with their Sh100,000 contribution. Other sponsors were Rapid PI, Equity Bank and Weslub Options Limited.
Kenya Body Building Federation (KBBF) Chairman Chris Omedo said he was happy that the bodybuilding contest was making a return to Kakamega after a 12-year hiatus.
“We will continue to spread the sport across the country,” said Omedo yesterday and thanked the sponsors, who supported the event.
At the same time, the federation’s patron Don Lowe said the Mr Modern Fitness body building championships would be held thrice a year.
He said after the successful Mr Modern Fitness in Mombasa, the next event would be in April next year, where he said the prize for the overall winner had been increased from Sh250,000 to Sh350,000.
