Ohangla new sensation John Okinyo aka Osogo Winyo is happy to be alive after escaping death by a whisker.

The musician was allegedly beaten by a mob after his friend was involved in scuffle with another patron over a woman two weeks ago.

Osogo was performing at a club in Migori only three kilometres from his home.

According to sources, the musician’s friend threatened to beat up the patron. He later got into a car and rammed it into a tree.

Osogo allegedly intervened but in the process boasted to the mob that he could pay them.

"It doesn’t matter the amount you want, just say it," the musician reportedly said.

But Osogo denies such claims saying he was attacked by a fan on his way to the accident scene. He was going to check whether his wife, brother and friend who were in the vehicle were injured.

Our sources, however, refute Osogo’s version adding that the mob decided to vent their anger on him since he was bragging. But Osogo says the claims are sheer nonsense.

The mob, he says, pounced on him using clubs and stones and left him unconcious.

"I thank God I am still alive, but nevertheless, I am still scared," says the singer.

He was later rushed to Ombo hospital in Migori before being transferred to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu with head injuries. He was discharged a few days ago.

"Contrary to reports, I had finished performing and went home to change only to return to be met by the mob at about 4.30am," he says.

He is set for a major fundraising event at Nairobi Railway Club today (Friday).
