Following the use and success of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the FIFA World Cup, UEFA is now planning to introduce it in Europe’s elite club competition, the Champions League.
According to an article seen by Game Yetu on The Times, UEFA staff have been working on a strategy that would see VAR introduced in quarter-final stages of the competition.
A committee is set to meet in Monaco next week to deliberate with a final decision on the matter expected at the end of the month.
UEFA hope the introduction of this system in the Champions League will alleviate blunders committed by referees in high-profile matches.
Video Assistant Referees are also expected to be in place at Euro 2020, though a decision has not been made yet.
