Samir Khan claimed his maiden Autocross victory as the ninth and last round of the Kenya National Autocross Championship ended at Jamhuri Park.

Khan had his campaign effectively sewn up when Moses Mugo’s buggy stalled after three heats when the engine of ceased and he resorted to sharing a buggy with Eugene Maina.

Khan was the quickest in the morning practice lap but Mugo bounced back to win the first two heats. Khan won heats three and four to register his maiden victory.

New brakes

"I am glad to get my maiden victory. It has been coming after months of hard work. And I was getting used to the new brakes so I didn’t attack in the first two heats," said Khan.

Shazz Esmail finished third after only three races as newcomer Geoff Mayes came fourth followed by Eric Bengi and Joan Nesbitt in that order.

Motocross rider Eugene Maina finished seventh in Ken Anunda’s buggy, while Nitya Patel and Pinal Patel was eighth and ninth respectively.

A total of nine drivers took part in the season-ender which had three debutantes.

They were Mayes of Mayes Media, Joan Nesbitt of Haraka Mamas and Eugene Maina.

Eric Bengi won the car class in his cross country Land Rover for the third time running in the autocross series.

Nesbitt was second in the cars’ category.

Mugo was left to rue his misfortunes though he had the under-24 title in the bag.

"The engine packed up when we were really going at a steady pace. It is the same problem we experienced in round nine," said Mugo.

Mugo, however, won the under-24 class to retain the youngsters’ championship for the second year running.
