Governor Abdi Guyo most of the families hit by drought, 2,856 households, are in Garbatula sub-county.

Other worst-hit areas are Merti sub-county where 5,000 families are on the brink of starvation, Oldonyiro (2,016 families), Sericho (3,400), Ngaremara (2,015) and Isiolo Central where 6,000 households, according to Guyo, are in urgent need of relief supplies.

While flagging off the consignment in Isiolo town, Guyo directed sub-county administrators, ward administrators and all county officials involved in the exercise to ensure fair distribution of the relief food.

"I will also follow up to ensure the food reaches the deserving cases," said the governor, adding; "Those who will be found diverting food will be dealt with accordingly."

"I want to issue an order here and now to ward and sub-county administrators to ensure these foods reach the needy cases we have in our County. I will personally ensure that this food aid reaches the right people and any officer that tries to divert it will face the full force of the law," Guyo said.
