How Raila celebrated after Supreme Court ruling

There were celebrations at the Supreme Court soon after Chief Justice David Maraga delivered verdict on Raila Odinga’s petition. Today marked the 14th day since National Super Alliance (NASA) petitioned President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win.

The landmark decision on the case filed by NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga on August 18, did not only change the country’s political destiny but also elicited various emotions among Kenyans.

It was jubilation for the NASA team and Raila openly expressed his delight in court. He hailed the Supreme Court ruling that Uhuru’s re-election was null and void.

Chief Justice David Maraga, his deputy Philomena Mwilu, Judges Jackton Ojwang’, Mohammed Ibrahim, Smokin Wanjala, Njoki Ndung’u and Isaac Lenaola had for the past two days retreated to a secluded hideout to consider the tonnes of documents presented in court before giving their judgement.

However, only six judges appeared before the court. Maraga said Judge Mohammed Ibrahim was taken ill on Tuesday and was being attended to by the doctor.

Four of the judges agreed to the decision while two dissented. NASA honoured the two judges who dissented for their courage in standing up for their opinion, which they respect.

Fresh presidential elections will be held within 60 days and supervised by IEBC as directed by the Supreme Court.
