The late Dr Stephen Mogusu’s family has appealed for help to enable them give him a befitting send-off.

Family spokesperson pastor Ronald Samani says the family has agreed to build a house for Mogusu, adding that they will only set a tentative burial date once they are done with the construction.

Pastor Samani says the funeral committee has been forced to get construction materials on hire purchase.

“Through goodwill from the community we have been able to put up the foundation and begun brick work.”

Dr Mogusu’s parents have been living in Kisii town and only moved back to their rural home a year ago. The medic had planned on building a house for his parents and had even identified the location within their compound.

“Our appeal is to our leadership to join the family and share the little they have to ensure we have given the young doctor a decent send-off. Even in death he remains a hero.”

Samani confirmed that Komarock Modern Hospital in Nairobi had waived the Sh1.3m bill that had been incurred during the time Mogusu was admitted at the facility.

“The ailing parents are not able to raise funds to ensure we have completed plans for their son’s burial. They have struggled all through to have their children attain any form of education.”

By Friday morning, the family was awaiting an approval from Safaricom and Kenya Commercial Bank to allow them run a pay bill number that will enable them raise more funds.

In an interview at the family’s Iranda village home in Marani Sub County in Kisii, Mogusu’s father Naftal Ongweno admitted to have worked hard to have his son and his other five children get admission in various schools.

“My son held the family’s bond. He always encouraged his other siblings to work hard and remain united. I was blessed with bright children, they are not financially stable yet, but they have never abandoned us."
