Property estimated to be worth Sh1.2 million were destroyed after strong winds blew off classrooms at Kinchororio Primary School in Homa Bay.
The wind which accompanied a heavy rain blew off the roofs of classes used by pupils of four classes on Friday evening.
Also destroyed were desks and learning materials.
According to the school headteacher Kennedy Matiku and the Board of Management (BOM) chairman Peter Owiso, the incident has caused a major setback ahead of the January 4, 2021 reopening.

“It is unfortunate that the classrooms have been destroyed at a time when we need more to create social distance when learning is going on during Covid-19 pandemic,” Matiku said.
There was no injury reported since the incident occurred when the pupils had left the school for home.
The school head appealed to well-wishers and Suba South NG-CDF to intervene and help them replace the damaged property.
“May well-wishers intervene to rescue the school so that learning can continue without interruption,” the headteacher added.
