WAJIR: Suspected Al-Shabaab militia Saturday morning attacked a Kenya Police Station in Wajir and made away with guns and ammunition.
The attack on Diff Police Station in Wajir South took place at about 1:00am after the insurgents overpowered officers manning the station.
Confirming the incident, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said: “Yes there was an attack at 1:00am but the officers put up stiff resistance and fought them off despite AS (Al-Shabaab) having come numbering over 100 in three trucks and heavy mortar fire. No casualties on our side. They escaped having looted local shops an officer’s tent and possibly with casualties.”
A different source claimed that the militia ran away with about 13 guns and an unknown number of bullets.
