Over the last few days, Kenyan rapper Stephen Otieno alias "Stivo Simple Boy" has been in the limelight after his wife Grace Atieno spoke out about his financial troubles.
His management also released a press statement saying they would be cutting ties with the "Freshi Barida" singer.
In an interview with YouTuber Vincent Mboya Grace said: "If you see that right now he is not releasing any songs, it's because he is going through a lot and he is afraid of talking it out. Sometimes we even miss food. He does not even know how much he gets paid during a show because management takes everything. If you see his accounts, he is not getting money from them. I share his pain. He is suffering. He does not have anything. Kenyans think he is living a good life, but it is not the case."
His management Men In Business released a statement on Monday, June 26, 2023, saying they have decided to part ways with Stivo.
"This letter serves as a notice to you of our intent to terminate the contract in a lawful and in accordance with the protocols. We would like to notify you that we no longer wish to proceed with our musical contract with you. This letter serves as a notice to you. "
However, in a call with Standard Entertainment, a member of Stivo's management said they were sitting down with the singer for an emergency meeting to map the way forward.
The source said Stivo would issue a comprehensive statement later.
"We're going into a meeting right now to resolve the problems with our artist and see how we can move forward. We have seen what is happening online and right now we have called for a meeting to see how we can work together. Expect a call from Stivo himself after the meeting where he can brief you on the outcome" the source said.
In a separate interview, Stivo's wife had claimed that her husband's laidback demeanour had played a part in their troubles as he could stand up for himself when things were going south.
"Ni kijana mpole na ana uwoga. (He is a shy and humble man) People think that it's Stivo who is behind his social media accounts but it's not him. Many people complain that they want to help him but they can't reach him."
