President William Ruto has appointed a seven-member team that will be involved in the selection of the new Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Among those named to the selection panel include the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chief Executive Twalib Mbaraka and Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli.

Other members are Principal Secretary Mary Kimonye, Shadrack Mose, Roseline Odede, Mary Adhiambo Maungu, and Richard Obwocha.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 (1) of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Act, 2013, I William Samoei Ruto, appoint (the following) to be members of the selection panel for the selection of nominees for appointment as the Director of Public Prosecutions," a gazette notice dated Wednesday, June 21 read in part.

The panel is expected to nominate an individual, whose nomination will go through the National Assembly for approval before being appointed by the President.

The appointment comes a few days after immediate former DPP Noordin Haji took over as the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

Haji served as the DPP from March 2018 and undertook various roles including prosecution of criminal matters and determining what should be preferred in a criminal case.
