Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s drive to save the Mau Complex should not be about the 2012 presidential election.

The priority should be to save Mau and vote hunting will come later. Who knows, saving the vital water tower could be the platform upon which the fourth president of this nation will be elected.

Polls aside, great men don’t necessarily occupy big offices. Men and women who have shaped human lives are humble. Icons such as Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr did not hold high offices yet they remain great leaders.

Similarly, PM and pro-Mau conservation team’s interest should not be about political supremacy. History will reward them for providing leadership when it mattered most.
