Former Tottenham Hotspurs star Victor Wanyama on Sunday played his last match for CF Montreal in the Major Soccer League in the US as speculations surrounding his potential return to the Scottish Premier League continue to build up.
The former Harambee Stars captain revealed he would not be extending his stay at Major League Soccer side CF Montreal next season earlier this month.
"Honestly, I think that this question has been long asked and the truth is that at the end of the season, I will leave. I have had great years here and enjoyed being part of the team," Wanyama was quoted at the start of October in a past interview.
On Monday, Wanyama posted on his official social media account what appeared to be a farewell message thanking the Montreal fans and the club for the support he has received during his stay in the US.
"The season has come to an end. I want to extend my gratitude to the fans, technical staff, teammates, and everyone that made this season a success in one way or the other. Time to recharge," posted Wanyama.

Several publications across Europe are now linking the veteran midfielder with a return to Celtic, the club where he made his mark.
Before his move to the MLS, Celtic tried to re-sign the former Southampton and Tottenham star but the move failed to happen with the Kenyan international revealing Tottenham refused to let him go.
The Kenyan powerhouse was a huge fans' favorite during his two years at Parkhead.
It is also understood that the 31-year-old is available for several European clubs transfer.
He famously scored in the 2-1 Champions League win over Barcelona and lifted two league titles.
Poached for a bargain PS900,000 from Belgian minnows Beerschot, the Hoops made a whopping PS11.6million profit when he joined Southampton in 2013.
Wanyama, though, claims he never pushed for an exit and would happily have stayed in Glasgow.
However, the midfielder accepts the club's money men couldn't afford to turn down a record PS12.5m transfer fee.
Wanyama left a gaping hole in Celtic's engine room but was a major success at St Mary's before following Saints mentor Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur in 2016.
He instantly became a key man at White Hart Lane, although he was plagued by injuries towards the end of his time in London.
