Current Miss Kenya, Fiona Konchella needs a bag that can fit all her books. MATILDA NZIOKI found out.
Which kind of bags do you carry on a daily basis?
The fact that I have to carry books almost daily does not mean I carry school-suited bags like backpacks. I like big and stylish shoulder bags. It has to be big enough for books and sometimes a mini-laptop and other stuff.
Tell me about the bag you’re carrying…
It was a gift from my mum. I like it because it’s big and fashionable. I’m not picky about designers or manufacturers, as long as the bag is pretty and works fine.

If we may steal a look inside…
In here I have: my diary, a pen, my Luis Vuitton wallet, some pocket tissues, my two phones, a driver’s licence, car keys, my handbag holder, earphones, Nivea double effect deodorant, a comb and my make-up bag. Today I didn’t have class so I don’t have any books or my Compaq mini laptop.
What winds you up you when it comes to ladies and their handbags?
It seems off to me when I see short ladies carrying bags that resemble a satchel. Ladies should learn to match bags to their body sizes.
If you asked many young girls if they thought they would ever own a handbag, the answer is always a definite ‘no’. When did you start carrying one?
That’s true. I got used to handbags after the Miss Kenya title. Before then, I was carrying the sling college bags and only owned one handbag. I used to put my phone and money in the jeans pockets, but I now have several handbags.

Which is your favourite?
It’s a relatively small colourful tote bag that was a present from my dad. It tells a lot about my personality.
Which are the five things that cannot miss to be in your handbag?
My wallet, phone, a notebook and pen, tissues, and basic make-up.
Who is your favourite bag designer and do you know how to spot a fake?
Chanel bags are on point! I like it in basic colours like black and brown. Because they are dark, they match almost everything. I change my bags according to what I’m wearing and also depending on the occasion.
To spot a fake, I think one should look keenly at the interior. The outside always looks like a real.
