President Uhuru Kenyatta’s niece Nana Wanjiku Gecaga has mourned relatives lost on 21 September 2013 during the Westgate terror attack.

Through a social media post, Nana paid tribute to Mbugua Mwangi and his fiancée Rosemary Wahito, who were among the 67 people killed in the two-day siege at the mall in Westlands, Nairobi.
“Another year without you my brother Mbugua and Sister Rosemary and your memories live on and will always continue to do so.
“I pass the picture of you every day when I come down the stairs in my house and smile because I remember a story every day of our time together and everything we went through the tears the laughter and the joy you brought to all our lives,” she wrote.

“May your souls continue to rest in eternal peace... our angels you will always continue to be remembered and celebrated always. I love and miss you so much. I will always continue to pray for all the families who lost someone in the horrific Westgate attack 2013 #gonebutneverforgotten.”
The late Mbugua was the son to Catherine Mwangi, sister to nominated Senator Beth Mugo and former politician Ngengi Muigai who are first cousins of the president.
According to reports, Mwangi served as Kenya’s envoy to Ireland, where he was appointed by former president Mwai Kibaki. Before that diplomatic appointment, he had worked as Deputy CEO of the Kenyatta International Conference Centre.

Three people accused of carrying out the terror attack are facing a trial, pleading innocent to charges of conspiracy to commit terrorism.
Al-Shabaab, a Somalia-based terror group linked to al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack.
