Mombasa Baptist High School was founded by Ray Miligan, a Christian missionary in 1963.

The school which is now under the Baptist Convention of Kenya, is a mixed private secondary school located in Tudor, Mombasa County. The school’s favourite sport is basketball, for which they have a long standing rivalry with Aga Khan Academy, also in Mombasa.

Memorable teachers include Mrs Basham, best remembered for teaching piano lessons in the 1990s, and history teacher, Mr Wafula, arguably the school’s most popular.

Notable alumni of this school, whose nickname are its initials, MBHS, include; Tom Kimai, a University of Nairobi physicist, Joe Kariuki in medical imaging in Washington DC and  Rashida Pirbhai, the President of Lions Club of Mombasa.

Then there is the curious case of newly elected Malindi MP Willy Mtengo, who briefly wore the khaki brown trousers (girls whore similarly-coloured skirts) and white shirt. But trousers were later changed to navy blue colour.

Mombasa Baptist principal, Millicent Omondi, recently revealed a copy of a letter indicating that William Baraka Mtengo was admitted to Form One in 1987 but never completed his education there. She could not say when and under what circumstances the Malindi MP-elect left. “His admission number was 87112, but we have no document to show when he left. We have no result slip showing that he sat his final exams here,” she said.

Another document at the school indicated that Mtengo left the same year in third term. Deputy principal Silas Wafula admitted writing a letter stating that Mtengo was never a student at the school.
