Pulse: How has you style changed since you joined Red Republik?
Mejja: It hasn't changed so much. I don't wear hoodies as much as I used to. I'm also wearing shirts more these days.
P: What influences your style?
M: I take influence from Snoop Dogg, especially from the Up in Smoke Tour – that West Coast style with the dope T-shirts and sneakers. Although my style is not loud, it's toned down.
P: When meeting your boys, what fashion item can't you leave the house without?
M: Old habits die hard (laughs). I can't leave home without my hoodie
P: What is your ideal style on a girl?
M: I like a girl who is comfortable in her shoes. If she can wear heels and a miniskirt without feeling uncomfortable, then be it. If she's wearing something long, it should show her figure. But I don't like seeing a woman dressed like a twilight girl.
P: What would you wear on date night, to impress your lady?
M: Shirt, jeans and matching sneakers. Also some African beads and Gucci cologne. I also make sure I'm well shaved.
P: What are you favourite kicks?
M: I like shoes from Converse.
P: What was your most recent fashion buy?
M: The last thing I bought were shoes, Converse (laughs), straight from the United Kingdom.
P: What do you look for when buying shoes?
M: I have a big foot, so the first thing I look at is size. Then the quality and then design; even when buying a shirt I look for simple and unique designs.
P: Where do you get your cool T-shirts from?
M: The Red Republik T-shirts that you see in the music videos are made by Luche, who is Clemmo's brother. He is the most reliable designer I know. The shirts we get from him are top quality.
P: Your brand, Kansoul, has a clothing line? Tell me about it.
M: Yes, Kansoul has a clothing line. The designers we worked with before have not been very reliable, so we put our line on hold till we can find a designer who can fulfil our vision.
Mejja is a Kenyan musician who belongs to the Kansoul. He previously used to work with Calif before joining Red Republic.
