The Machakos County government has come to the rescue of several performers who were not paid in the New Year concert at Machakos People’s Park.

The much hyped Macha New Year concert which promised to give fun lovers 4 concerts in 3 days ended with disgruntled sponsors, frustrated performers and a promoter gone to hiding.

Cracks in the event started showing when artists like Avril, Octopizzo and Timmy of the Welle Welle fame cancelled their performances, citing promoter misunderstanding.

The Machakos Governor, Dr Alfed Mutua, even took to social media to express his disappointment with Carlos who had not paid the artists and the county government.

Carlos Kioko is the promoter in question who according to sources cannot be traced and refuses to answer any calls.

A phone interview with one of the performers, MC Njugush, revealed that the county government paid the artistes yesterday.

“We had signed contracts with Carlos but on arrival at the People’s Park, he started acting up. He refused to pay part of the money required before we got on stage as stated in the contract,” Njugush explained.

“This shifty attitude led us to the county government office where we were requested to perform for the audience which had already filled the park with the promise of payment from the county instead. It is sad that such promoters are killing the industry and taking advantage of Kenyans,” he concluded.

The promoter is still at large.
