When Hollywood actor George Clooney got married to human rights lawyer Amal Alamudin, he broke so many women’s hearts globally.
Earlier, Clooney had hinted he would never get married. He makes for a “lousy” hubby, he said.
The Up in the Air star had promised to stay single, claiming marriage wasn’t for him, only to change his heart when he met the gorgeous British-Lebanese ‘learned friend.’
Locally, we have our own eligible bachelors like one Bruce Odhiambo, the current Chariman of the National Youth Fund, who will surely break a heart or two should news filter in that they are getting hitched.
The Nairobian carried a survey of 10 of the most eligible bachelors. Some are dating or in serious relationships, while others are yet to declare their status publicly.
These are the leading contenders from our readers:
Hussein Mohammed
This sharply-dressed newsman in his early 30s is the heartthrob of many a Nairobian woman who probably only watch him as ‘news’ on Citizen TV.
He’s ranked by those we polled as hot because he is intellectually sharp and “looks like one of the few anchors who actually understand the news they are reading.”
The Zetech College alumnus has been lauded as a great interviewer and his boyish good looks will charm the shyness off any woman. We understand he is dating, but we are yet to unveil the lucky Somali woman, with whom (sob, sob!) he might be tying the knot next year. But a girl can dream, right?
Bob Collymore
Corporate honchos are supposed to be stiff and boring, but not Bob.
The Safaricom CEO made it to the list last year, and again this year. Women can’t resist a man in a powerful position, and they don’t wield more power than this in the corporate world. Add this to his outgoing demeanour, fashion sense and ‘celebrity’ status as he mingles with the who-is-who in Kenya and you have the making of an utterly (or is it fatally?) attractive and irresistible homme aimant.
And he is no butterball either - he hits the gym daily, hence his sculpted physique. What’s not to like in a CEO who flies choppers for fun and records collabos with the likes of Juliani, Jimmy Gait and Julie Gichuru?
Victor Mugubi
The Southampton defensive midfielder is slowly and surely making a name for himself in the English Premier League (EPL), and is one of the highest-paid Kenyan sports exports.
Big Vic became the highest paid Kenyan footballer following his transfer from Celtic FC in Scotland to EPL.
He currently earns an estimated Sh17.5 million gross monthly salary.
Victor is younger brother to equally accomplished McDonald Mariga.
His close relationship with musician Victoria Kimani once sparked speculation that they could be the new golden couple. They both denied rumours of a romantic relationship. At least that’s a crack in the doorway for those who drift off into smiley fantasies with Africa’s Beckham, wishing they could be his Victoria!
Emmanuel Jambo
This is the man President Uhuru fondly refers to as ‘bro,’ while Deputy President William Ruto and other State House staff call ‘Rasta.’
The Computer Information Systems graduate was recognised by Forbes magazine in 2012 as one of the most influential photographers in Africa. He is State House’s official photographer, whose portfolio includes fashion, portrait, commercial and lifestyle shoots that has seen him work for local and international lifestyle magazines and creative agencies.
Word is that his heart throbs for a fair lady of Somali extraction, but since he hasn’t put a ring on it yet, well...some of us are incorrigible optimists!
Andrew Kabogo
Kiambu governor’s eldest son, Andrew Kabogo, is a spitting image of his father. Apparently he operates between Mombasa and Nairobi.
He went to Brookehouse and graduated from Brunel University in 2013.
Andrew is mostly in his father’s company when not running their family business at the coast.
Recently, Andrew ‘unveiled’ his super-hot ‘babe,’ only known as Sana, on his Twitter page. Since we are yet to hear any wedding bells, is it insensitive to consider him fair game?
Allan Muigai (DJ Stylez)
He is an old hand in Kenya’s entertainment industry and head of the reputable Code Red outfit. And there is the little matter of his relationship to the president.
His family runs Roasters Inn along Thika Road. The Mangu High School and USIU alumnus recently launched a super bike racing team and is sponsored by Monster energy drink.
His new interest has attracted top politicians, including Kiambu governor.
Stylez, a fan of basketball, also mentors young boys, making him a potential responsible father figure. He once dated former ‘Straight Up’ presenter, Namtero Mdee. If that’s not the definition of Mr Right, we would have ended it here!
Zachary Saitoti
This Bristol-bred, Kenyan photographer happens to be former Vice President George Saitoti’s son. The blue-blooded Zachary Saitoti first earned respect through Shifteye Photography and later Cranium Ink.
Shifteye has now grown into a gallery based at The Priory (a building rumoured to belong to his late father) in Hurlingham.
The media shy Zachary is also behind private photo shoots of top musicians like Camp Mulla and Suzanna Owiyo.
Guess who is his manager? None other than the first daughter, Ngina Kenyatta. How can you beat that? And you’ve got to respect someone who wants to be his own man despite a privileged background.
Bien Aime Alusa
The Upperhill and USIU alumnus is tall, sings in a falsetto and writes most of the songs for his boy band, Sauti Sol.
Bien’s amazing body and height, artistic and ability to show his emotions is what sends most women going uuuh! oooh! and aaah!
He recently started a blog where he talks about relationships and sex, which has further endeared him to the the female folk.
He once dated the super-hot Wambui of Elani.
Willy Ambaka
Big ‘Lomu’ is not just a pillar of Kenya’s Sevens rugby squad — he is also the hero in many women’s dreams.
A ripped body dripping with raw energy will not just make any woman weak at the knees, it will draw them in like moths to a light. It does help that he recently signed a two-year contract with South Africa’s Western Province Rugby Club.
He becomes the second Kenyan to play in South Africa after Daniel Adongo’s stint with the Durban-based Sharks franchise a couple of years back.
Ambaka now knocks shoulders with elite rugby players
