There is a cry for help from Baringo County where drought continues to bite, causing water and food shortages.

There is also lack of pasture and water for animals.

Baringo is not the only place that is affected by drought.

North Eastern Kenya and several other counties outside the region are also in the grip of drought despite the temporal reprieve brought about by short rains at the end of last year.

Indeed, in December, the US-backed Famine Early Warning Systems Network warned that about four million people in northern and eastern parts of Kenya were at risk of hunger and starvation in the next three to five months in 17 counties.

The should have been adequate warning for the government to prepare to avert suffering and even death of both human beings and their livestock. It is time for the government to act.
