Tension on Kuria border as bandits kill herdsman

Tension is high along Trans Mara-Kuria border after heavily armed bandits killed one person and escaped with close to 60 heads of cattle.
The 3pm raid occurred at Ngendalel Village, Angatta Barrikoi Division yesterday.
A group of armed men believed to be from the neighbouring Kuria East district attacked the village gunned down Joel Maritim, who was looking after the cattle and drove away the animals.

However, a contingent of Anti-Stock Theft police officers, led by Mr Emmanuel Opuro, with assistance from the local residents managed to recover the animals later.
According to Opuro, two of the animals died during a shootout between the officers and the bandits.
“Two animals died due to serious bullet wounds they sustained in the crossfire, but we managed to recover the other animals,” he said.
