Hundreds of local residents chanting slogans stormed the county assembly to protest ward representatives’ crusade to force the dismissal of Water Executive Stephen Masamo.

They battled anti-riot police as they tried to gain entrance to the assembly. Yesterday’s incident capped almost a week of tension between the assembly and the executive, which have been in a stand-off since last Friday when the former made major changes to the 2015-2016 budget as proposed by Governor John Mruttu.

The MCAs diverted Sh291 million from the budget to the ward development fund. The governor returned the bill to the assembly recommending a reversal but the MCAs declined. Reports indicate Masamo is headed to court to stop his impeachment.
