Residents of Shamba Rungu in Bararget, Kuresoi South have dared Jubilee government to evict them without plans for resettlement and be ready to face their full wrath. Speaking to Journalists in Kiptulwo on Friday, the residents said an eviction notice has been served but they vow to stay put until the government shows them where next to settle. They also reach out to the area Mp, Hon Zk Cheruiyot to help them.
“We were evicted from Lari, some of us were evicted from Laikipia and some from Kap Moronjo. Our names were put in government’s records for compensation plan however up to date, we are yet to be paid. We struggled and got our little money enough to buy lands in Shamba Rungu. It is unfortunate that the same influential people who sold us lands are the same people in the forefront pushing for our eviction,” they said.
“Jubilee leaders keep demonizing Raila that he evicted people from Mau and yet they themselves are the worst. We dare them to evict us without compensation and we part ways with them,” they added.
The area MP, when contacted on phone, confirmed that it is true that the government is set to evict the residents and has asked the government to provide a resettlement plan before the eviction is effected to avoid the pile up of IDPs in the constituency.
“Jubilee government is yet to roll out the resettlement for those integrated IDPs and after some of them have struggled to buy lands, they now want to evict them again. There is another IDP camp in Chenugu of more than 1200 families evicted to pave way for the construction of Itare Dam. They too were not compensated and are now in camps. The government has turned deaf ears and blind eyes to their plights,” he said.
