Meru governor Peter Munya as hinted at a possibility to join the opposition fully in what would be a major gain for NASA as several inroads in the area by the opposition have indicated they could capture a good share of the votes.
Munya has linked his intended move to what he termed as ‘arrogance’ in some of the ruling party leaders who he accuses of frequently harassing him out of being close to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Senator Kiraitu Murungi is among Jubilee candidates giving the former Council of Governor’s chairman sleepless nights as they have staged stiff competition against Munya’s bid for a second term.
On Monday, the PNU party leader appeared frustrated in Imenti saying he could as well do without president Kenyatta as he had options that could work for him away from what he felt was intimidation politics from the ruling party.
“I can’t be harassed all the time yet I have options. Jubilee people are busy tainting my name instead of selling their agenda to the people,” said Munya.

During his tour of Meru, President Uhuru skipped local politics letting residents decide on their own but apparently the Jubilee Candidates are not resting until they capture the Meru governor’s seat resulting to his now intended move.
“I have options and I can as well support NASA. These kind of politics Jubilee team is deploying cannot intimidate me anymore,” added the governor.
Jubilee government has made efforts to have concrete support largely from Miraa farmers who have been the revolving point for the politics in the area.
