Farmers and pastoralists in Kenya have a reason to smile as they are about to fetch more money from their farming, by meeting quality standards required for both local and export markets.

This follows a partnership between the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the Kenya Markets Trust (KMT) to roll out a programme that will ensure quality adherence for farm produce. The two organisations will promote standardisation, metrology and conformity assessment in the Dairy, Livestock, Water, Agricultural inputs and Crop Seed sectors on the basis of equality and inclusiveness for all sector players.

KMT will support KEBS in harmonising standards in agriculture and livestock sectors, conduct media campaign and public sensitisation to improve the quality of products, and ensure outreach to consumers.

KMT and KEBS partnership is aimed at enabling producers in Kenya to compete with the best in other parts of the world, thus helping Kenya meet vision 2030 agricultural targets faster than envisioned.

Regulation and standardisation contributes to availability and accessibility to quality products for consumers, leading to increased and sustainable agricultural productivity, food security and wealth creation
