The move by the Nairobi County leadership to end the tradition of allowing hawkers into the city centre every election year should be emulated by other counties.
They should be able to pull all stops now and in the coming months to restore order in the city irrespective of political consideration.
The determination by the county administration to break the cycle of impunity that has characterised electoral years where leaders exchange vote for disorder and chaos will bear fruit.
All county leaders should emulate Nairobi county leadership in defending and restoring the dignity of walking, living and doing business in the city. Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero's ideas to expand the existing markets, renovate others and construct new ones will help in removing hawkers from the city centre.
