Ruth Jebet, the ex-Kenyan who won gold at the Rio olympics was received like a queen at her adopted country Bahrain.
The athlete who changed her Kenyan citizenship when she was just 16 years old, won the first and only gold medal for Bahrain in the history of the country.
The 19-year-old met Bahrain’s King His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa who along with other high profile ministers attended the ceremony to fete Jebet.
She was received at the Bahrain international airport by government officials and showered with confetti bearing the colours of the Bahrain flag.
There was cake also cake to celebrate her achievement at the Olympics.

A section of Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) expressed their dissapointment when they learned that she was running for Bahrain, saying that she was unpatriotic.
Another section forgave her saying the Kenyan government had put little effort in recognising and appreciating Kenyan olympians and thus she was right to go where she felt more appreciated.
She will be receiving a whooping 52 million from her adopted country while her Kenyan counterpart will receive 1 million.
