To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted... Ecclesiastes.

The year started with the hot sun blazing, and after some weeks it gave way to the rains and now that is almost forgotten, as we arm ourselves with warm clothing to combat the impending cold.

Even though countries in the tropics — Kenya included — do not experience extreme change in weather patterns, they still experience a variation in weather. We have the cold season, the hot season and the not so hot or cold season and of course the rainy season. Having lived in Kenya all my life, I will not deny that there are times when I wish we experienced the spring, summer, autumn and winter patterns that countries in the Northern Hemisphere do.

A season is a division of the year marked by changes in weather, ecology and hours of daylight.

The different seasons remind me that there is a season and a time for everything. And that life demands a degree of dos and don’ts here and there if things are to work out or go in tandem with nature.

The beauty of new seasons comes with new begins.

There is no denying that renewal and energy that accompanies you on your first day in school or work. Or even in the beginning of a project. Indeed, life would be one blank and endless wall if it was not accompanied by seasons.

Seasons send that reminder that everything happens when it needs to happen; everyone is always where they need to be. You will never miss out on what is meant for you, even if it has to come to you in a roundabout way.

Time passes, seasons come and go. Sometimes however, we remain the same, rooted in our routine, our bad habits, unable to become better people. Other times, we are ahead of seasonal change, and do the inevitable to outperform the seasons — and ourselves. The irony of life seasons is how unpredictable they are. I could be experiencing a summer in my life when you could be going through autum or winter.

The good thing is that no matter how long one season takes, it will eventually give way to another. Only that, some seasons are unpredictable, coming without warning, sometimes turning your orderly life upside down. Still, they come to an end one day to give way to that spring, that summer that allows the sun shine bright as it should.

Accepting that life is seasonal helps you embrace with grace and strength the inevitable situations that life throws at you — because it will, at some point, whether you like it or not.
