State urges families displaced in Olpusimoru clashes to return home

Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter joined leaders from both Narok and Nakuru counties in his second visit to Olpusimoru.

This is in a bid to convince displaced residents to return to their homes.

Calm returned to the area after clashes between the Maasai and Kipsigis communities led to the death of one person and at least 12 others injured.

The Maasai community has urged their displaced Kipsigis counterparts to return to their homes.

But displaced residents had expressed fear of renewed attacks, vowing they would continue to camp at the Olenguruone Township Primary School until their safety back home is guaranteed.

But most of those whose houses were torched want cleansing to be first conducted by elders from both sides before returning.

Mr Keter reaffirmed the State's commitment to partly compensate those displaced by providing building materials.
