Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki has asked county assemblies to play their oversight role well to promote development in regional governments.
Prof Kindiki said Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) in many counties had been compromised by the executive, making it difficult form them to play their role effectively.
The Senate Majority Leader, who was issuing a keynote address to the Tharaka Nithi County Assembly yesterday, appealed to the MCAs to ensure accountability and professionalism.
“The public thinks their money is used on trips that do not add value to the common mwananchi,” he said.
He added that Senate would continue fighting for more funds for devolution. In 2017, he said, Tharaka Nithi County will receive Sh5 billion, up from the current Sh3.7 billion.
