Eldoret, Kenya - Baringo County Assembly speaker Kasait Kamket got a reprieve after winning a case that sought his suspension at the Eldoret High Court.
There was jubilation as supporters of the speaker who camped outside the courtroom in Eldoret broke into song and dance praising their leader after the ruling on Tuesday.
The judge, Justice George Kimondo while delivering the ruling said the county assembly has no powers to suspend the speaker.
He was categorical that the speaker is an ex-officio member and a notice of motion can only be moved against ordinary members of the county assembly.
“The suspension was illegal because pursuant to article 50 (e) of the county assembly standing orders, the law does not apply to the speaker but mainly emphasizes for the suspension of ordinary members,” he said.
