LODWAR: Turkana County has embarked on a series of cultural activities in a bid to identify Cultural ambassadors in the region.
Locals and village elders in Turkana County have initiated cultural campaign across the region to incorporate the youth in cultural activities to tame cattle rustling in the region.
The first Turkana Cultural ambassadors have been identified in the first annual Turkana Cultural event in Turkana East Sub County.
Turkana East legislator Nicholas Ng’ikor said the event will be used to mobilize those youth who have been involved in cattle rustling vices to reform them through identification of talents.
“We will use this event to draw some youth warriors in the region who have been engaging in cattle rustling and other forms of criminal activities to shun cattle rustling, “he said

The MP added that the Turkana annual cultural event will also be used to promote Turkana culture and cultural heritage.
The MP said the youths have been mobilized from the region which has been hardest hit by cattle rustling practices.
The legislator said that Turkana culture which is rich in moral values and peace with nature will be used to engage the youths to show case their talents in singing, dances and sports among others.
The MP said a cultural centre would be built to promote culture and barter trade among the reformed warriors.
He said the centre will be a tourist hub and centre for cross border peace activities among the warring communities.
“We must achieve peace by ensuring that we unite the warring warriors in the three conflicts counties by introducing culture and sports across the region. This will assist to eradicate cattle rustling in the region”, Ng’ikor said.
Turkana East Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Chairman Daniel Emekwi said the CDF committee has endorsed the promotion of talents in the region through cultural activities that shall be held annually in the region.
“We appeal to our neighbours to promote peace through culture and sports. We will also bring cattle rustling to an end if we engage our warriors in useful activities through culture promotion in the region”, Emekwi told the participants.
