Kisumu, Kenya: Anxiety has gripped Kisumu residents following the shooting of banker by unknown people.
The Kenya Commercial Bank Nyamira branch manager, Pius Oburo, 38, was allegedly killed at midnight in his car when escorting a woman to her residential house at Gesoko area.
He was shot in the chest and stomach, and died upon reaching Aga Khan Hospital. The woman escaped unhurt.
Kisumu County Police Commandant David Ng’etich said the gangsters abandoned the car after ransacking it, but took a laptop belonging to Oburo.
The police boss said the woman has recorded a statement at Kondele Police Station, and was helping police with investigations.

“We still do not know the motive of the killers. We have launched investigations and will soon bring the killers to book,” he said.
MURDER CASES
Although cases of murder had dropped in the last three months, the recent event has spread fear among the residents of the lakeside city.
They want police officers to beef up security in the heart of the city, including the informal settlements.
Two weeks ago, Members of the County Assembly mapped out crime hotspots, and presented their recommendations to the top security officers. They include informal settlements of Nyamasaria, Nyalenda, Obunga, Kondele and Migosi.
“We recived the report and are currently working on implementation modalities,” said the police commandant.
Meanwhile, a case involving a former police officer who allegedly attempted to murder his girlfriend did not proceed at a Kisumu Court for lack of a firearm expert report.
While appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Obutu, the prosecutor handling the case said the ballistic expert report in the case against Salim Irioko accused of firing 15 rounds of ammunition was not ready.
He said he had not received the report from the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters, and that the P3 form for the second complainant had not been filled because she was hospitalised, and had not fully recovered.
