A church for the deaf has been established in Siaya to provide spiritual nourishment among people with hearing impairments across the region.
Pastor Walter Opiyo of Baptist Church in Siaya said the initiative has been started to ensure people with hearing disabilities get an equal opportunity to learn the word of God.
Pastor Opiyo said the idea was mooted when they realised that due to communication barrier, most people with hearing impairment were denied the opportunity to worship in the local churches.
“This programme will help people with disability to serve God and fit into the society with ease and undertake activities within the community,” he said.
The pastor says the church for the deaf has over 40 deaf members in the congregation every Sunday service.
