Two Kenyans have been named by a top US magazine among the 100 most influential people in the world.

Author Binyavanga Wainaina and Ory Okolloh have been listed among Time’s 100 most influential people in the world.

Binyavanga, who stormed the world over his stand on gayism was dubbed “The Memoirist with a Mission,” by award-winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who acknowledged his courage to speak out as a gay man in Africa despite the demonisation of gays in majority of countries in the continent.

Okolloh is a Director of Investments at Omidyar Network. She is the co-founder of parliamentary watchdog site Mzalendo and Ushahidi.

Okolloh, who was routinely thrown out of school in Kenya because her parents couldn’t pay the fee, got a Harvard Law degree and a job offer from a DC law firm.

She helped create Ushahidi, an online service for crowd-mapping data.
