Kenya: The county government of Kakamega has refuted claims that its vehicles were recently pictured parked at an entertainment joint past working hours.
In a press statement Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said the building where the vehicles were pictured in The Standard on Monday belongs to the county.
“We would like to categorically state that this information is not only false but misleading in its totality. The building that has been portrayed as a popular night spot is the property of the county. It was previously owned by the defunct Municipal Council of Kakamega,” said Oparanya.
“This so-called popular night spot known as Mwauda (which was pictured) is in fact a tenant of the county government of Kakamega and has since been issued with a notice to vacate to create more office space for employees.”

The governor also sought to put the record straight, concerning the number of cars purchased so far.
“The county has never purchased 12 vehicles at the cost of Sh35 million, which media reports claim are not properly utilised,” the governor explained.
