Businessman Raj Devani to take plea over gun drama

Nairobi, Kenya: Magistrate’s court at Milimani law courts have ordered that businessman Raj Devani appears in court on Friday to take plea over allegations that he fired a gun in a public building at Nairobi's Westlands area.

The prosecution told the court that Devani is circumventing taking plea on the charges against him.

The controversial businessman had taken a bed rest after requesting the court through his lawyer.

Devani has since denied allegations. He claims his firearm accidentally went off when he tripped.

His firearm was confiscated AT Gigiri police station where he was sent to after the gun drama. Police allege that Devani shot at a padlock at a building whose ownership is being contested.

He is said to have previously owned the building but was auctioned by the National Bank of Kenya to recover 150 million shillings borrowed by Devani, but the business man is contesting the sale of the building.

Magistrate Daniel Ochenja has ordered the businessman to make appearance in court to take his plea failure to which a warrant of arrest will be issued against him.

“He requested up to January 17, 2014 for bed rest. I order that he comes to take a plea,” said the Judge.
