Machakos, Kenya: A village in Kangundo is observing the country’s 50th birthday in a sombre mood after a man was murdered in cold blood.
The victim identified as Joseph Muoki, 58, had just arrived at his home in Mbilini village Tuesday at around 9.30pm when three men stormed into his house and ordered the deceased and his wife to lie down before attacking him with a blunt object.
The assailants are reported to have warned the two of dire consequences if they dared scream or raise any alarm before they embarked on the murder mission. The late Muoki worked at Deputy County Commissioner’s office in Thika in the neighboring Kiambu County.
Police arrived at the scene 30 minutes later and moved the victim’s body to Kangundo level 4 hospital mortuary.

Confirming the incident Thursday morning, Kangundo OCPD Abduba Wako said police have launched investigations into the incident that caused panic and grief to local residents at a time the country was in the mood of celebrating 50 years of independence.
“For now we are treating the incident as murder because the attackers did not steal anything from the victim apart from two mobile phones, which we believe was a precautionary measure,” Mr Wako told The Standard over the phone.
