Kakamega Homeboyz were relegated but Nairobi City Stars, Sony Sugar, Western Stima and Mathare United all survived on the last day of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season.

Homeboyz fell 2-1 to AFC Leopards who clinched second position on the log ahead of Sofapaka who beat Mathare United 2-1 at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

In Mumias, Leopards got off to a bright start going ahead inside the first minute after Peter Opiyo scored the opener before Allan Wanga scored the winner in the 65th minute.

At Kasarani, Sofapaka edged  out Mathare United 2-1 to settle for third position on the log.

Sofapaka were battling for second position with AFC Leopards but when the latter beat Kakamega Homeboyz 2-1 in Mumia both teams finished on 50 points but Leopards had a better goal aggregate.

Johnson Bagole and Mustafa Kasolo scored a goal each for Sofapaka while Keneth Wendo pulled one back for United.

In the tenth minute veteran striker Mike Barasa also had a chance to put Sofapaka ahead but headed wide with the goal at his mercy.

United were not into the match until the quarter hour mark when Keneth Wendo threatened Duncun Ochieng in goal with a long effort.

After the half hour mark, both teams showed more urgency with Osborne Monday coming close for United with a pointed free kick.  On the other side Kasolo headed wide as both attackers wasted chances.

It was Sofapaka who got on the score sheet first and from a move initiated by Bob Mugalia, Johnson Bagole simply tapped home in the 41st minute.

But one minute later, United equalized with Wendo heading home from an Osborne Monday pass.

In the second half, there was a sense of urgency from both sides one keen to survive and other chasing second spot on the log.

But it was Sofapaka who had  the last laugh when second half substitute Patrick Kagogo set up Mustafa Kasolo to score the second goal in the 85th minute.

In Naivasha, Jacob Keli scored a double to help KCB beat Karuturi Sports 2-0. The goals enable Keli to finish as the 2013 top goal scorer ahead of Jesse Were of Tusker.  Keli now has 17 goals while Were has settled on 15.

In Thika, hosts Thika United beat a ten man Muhoroni Youth side 1-0 to finish among the top eight.

In Awendo, Sony Sugar ensured survival by stopping Bandari 2-0 with both goals coming from Moses Arita. Moses Arita scored a first half brace in his team’s 2 - 0  win over Bandari, a result that saw the Awendo side confirm its place in the top flight for the 2014 season.

In Awasi, Chemilil Sugar recovered their poise on the home stretch during their last encounter to beat City Stars 1-0, before scores of eager home fans.

Jared Obwoge was outstanding for Chemelil Sugar during this half.
