Kenya: The government has announced that 41,721 identity cards are lying uncollected at several registries in coast region and threatened to destroy them if they are not picked by Friday.
The principal Registrar of persons, Mr Aggrey Chitunga Masai said Tuesday the identity cards have been lying idle in the registration offices in Coast’s six counties for the last three months.
He also announced that Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku directed all national identity cards must be collected within three months.
“I have the national identity cards lying idle in the offices and following the directive of the cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Interior, the identity cards must be collected within three months and those not collected must be destroyed,” he said.

He said Mombasa County has the highest number of uncollected identity cards that are 23,443.
