Nairobi, Kenya: Mining Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has said he has not received any communication from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) regarding the Sh80 million corruption allegations against him.

Balala noted that no formal communication has been made to him by the anti-graft czar even after the agency confirmed they had launched preliminary investigations into the claims by Cortec Mining Kenya.

Sh80 million

“Nothing formally has been communicated to me. We are still waiting,” Balala said Wednesday at his offices in Nairobi.

Cortec’s Managing Director David Anderson had written to the EACC that Balala sought   Sh80 million from the firm to buy a house, claims the Mining Secretary has dismissed.

Balala maintained that Government would continue to sanitise the mining sector that has been used by some companies to rake in money from the stock exchange market. “This is not about Balala as an individual. We must do the clean-up, we must do the right thing,” he vowed.

The Minister spoke after signing a memorandum of understanding with a Chinese firm, the Geological Exploration Technology Institute of Jiansu.
