In a move to stop a falling out, major parties are pushing their nomination dates closer to the January 18 deadline, following Parliament move to extend party-hopping period.
The move means the candidates will present their papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) the same day the political parties will also be submitting the membership lists to the commission. TNA, ODM and URP have indicated the likelihood of moving the dates if Kibaki assents to the Bill into law.
“On the basis of the current law we will have the nomination on January 10 like we communicated, but if the President assents to the Bill the goal post will have changed,” said Franklin Bett, ODM National Elections Board chairman.
TNA party official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “TNA has so many aspirants in some regions, you will get in a seat there are more than ten, those who lose will likely move to other parties if they get an opportunity.”
