Anger, frustration and despair greeted customers who operate accounts at the troubled Chase Bank in Mombasa yesterday.
This came amid reports that a man with about Sh1 billion in one of the branches collapsed and was rushed to hospital.
Hundreds of clients thronged the banks's Moi Avenue branch located at Jubilee Building following confirmation that the bank had been placed under receivership.
A clearing and forwarding agent who did not wish to be identified and operates an account with the bank in Mombasa, said he felt swindled by the bank.

"I have a shipment of 10 containers that are laden with cargo for hotel refurbishment and it requires clearance by early next week. I had rushed here to check with my bank if I could access funds to pay for port and clearance charges only to be told of the receivership," he said.
A real estate contractor Salim Bakari, who together with his wife operates a joint savings accounts at the Chase Imani branch in Bondeni said they stood to lose out on business deals after the bank went into receivership.
"We had secured several sites for construction and are even servicing a loan. With the new developments, we do not know where to start," said Mr Bakari.
